ASMR Choir
Exploring a category of sounds that we don’t often get to experience in isolation, ASMR Choir brings together a unique instrument, rich in close-mic’d ‘tiny’ sounds. Focusing on the lower-dynamics, it’s the musical equivalent of someone whispering in your ear.
Recorded in the main room at Max Richter’s Studio Richter Mahr, this collection includes four separate instruments. A choir specialising in Renaissance music, including Grace Davidson (soloist in SLEEP), is at the heart of ASMR Choir, with a small string section of solo violin and cello, recorded both independently and then together with the choir, in situ. Those recordings are then used as the source for a fourth ‘processed’ instrument, drawing on analogue vocoders, a texture that Max loves and has utilised a number of times in his film scoring work.
The result is a low-dynamic, ultra-close palette of choral and string textures, providing a really special colour to add both a purity and ‘humanness’ to your score.

“We decided to launch SRM Sounds because, even though there are a million sample libraries out there, I could find hardly any that really hit the spot for me.
For composers, sound is an incredibly personal and emotional thing. For many of us, the experience of falling in love with the physical and tactile aspects of sound is what got us into music in the first place, so working with sounds that aren’t quite right is really disturbing. Therefore, we decided to make our own Kontakt instrument collection, using the wonderful acoustics and technical resources of Studio Richter Mahr. These instruments have the colours that I love to use to tell the stories I want to tell.”
